There were also 2,321 civilians injured by the mines, including 406 children and 365 women, according to the statement. Mine clearance efforts are being intensified in regions liberated by government forces.

More than 8,000 mine victims are estimated to have been killed in Yemen by human rights groups. Most of the victims are women and children. Almost a million mines have been planted in areas controlled by the Houthis, according to the Yemeni government. Houthi rebels aligned with Iran have been battling for control of much of Yemen since 2014, when they captured the capital, Sanaa, from the Yemeni government.
